Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes Announces Special Election for U.S. Representative, 4th District

Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s Secretary of State and Chief Election Official, announced today that a special election will be held on November 6, 2012, to fill the vacancy in United States Representative in Congress, Fourth Congressional District.

The Hon. Geoff Davis, former Representative for the 4th Congressional District, resigned effective July 31, 2012, vacating the remainder of his term. On August 17, 2012, pursuant to KRS 118.720, Governor Steve Beshear issued and Grimes certified a proclamation calling for an election to fill the vacancy.

Pursuant to an August 28, 2012, Order in Franklin Circuit Court Civil Action No. 12-CI-1042, the deadline for Republican and Democratic candidates nominated by their party and independent candidates to file their certificates and petitions with the Secretary of State is Monday, September 10, 2012, at 4:00 p.m., EST.
