“Nancy and I were deeply saddened to hear of Governor Nunn’s passing. He was a true statesman and a fine gentleman filled with integrity. I have enjoyed getting to know him over the years. One of my fondest memories from last year’s campaign was when I had the opportunity to visit with Governor Nunn at his home. Over breakfast, he imparted his wisdom as I listened to his many stories and jokes. He was more than just a leader for our citizens; he was our friend. I am particularly touched by the legacy he leaves behind. He made an enormous impact on the Northern Kentucky region when he founded Northern Kentucky University, and for that I know many are grateful. After he left office he continued to serve the Commonwealth by fighting for many causes that he loved. Kentucky has lost a magnificent leader who will be sorely missed.”
