Kentucky Jaycees Recognize Secretary Grayson as 2005 Outstanding Young Kentuckian
The Kentucky Junior Chamber (Jaycees) recognized Secretary of State Trey Grayson at their annual awards ceremony and awards banquet as one of two outstanding young Kentuckians. Danny Driscoll, a Boone County resident, was also honored.
“The commitment of these extraordinary individuals is truly remarkable,” stated Keith Blanton, the 70th president of the Kentucky Jaycees. “Their leadership is an example and inspiration for each of us.”
Secretary Grayson was honored in part due to his leadership in the Civic Literacy Initiative of Kentucky, a multi-year effort that will determine a strategy for enhancing long-term civic engagement and civic literacy within the Commonwealth. Grayson serves as chairman of the initiative.
As part of those efforts, Grayson recently released Rediscovering Democracy: A Report on the Kentucky Summit on Civic Literacy. The report outlines the efforts of the Civic Literacy Initiative of Kentucky (CLIK) and the corresponding summit that was held last October.
“I am honored to receive this recognition by the Jaycees and am excited by the efforts that they have made to increase the civic engagement of young people across the Commonwealth. Their labor to engage the citizenry of Kentucky deserves highest commendation.”
The Jaycees honor comes on the heels of other honors that Grayson has received. In August of 2004, Secretary Grayson was named a “Rising Star” in the Republican Party by United Leaders, a nonpartisan, nonprofit action tank based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Earlier, he was one of 40 state leaders from across the country selected to participate in the prestigious Toll Fellowship Program sponsored by The Council of State Governments. In 1999, he was named one of forty-four “Kentucky Leaders for the New Century” by the Kentucky Press Association and the Shakertown Roundtable.
Grayson currently serves on numerous state and national boards for non-profits and other associations. He is the presently the youngest Secretary of State in the country and is serving a two-year term as Chairman of the Republican Association of Secretaries of State.
A fifth generation Kentuckian and lifelong resident of Northern Kentucky, Secretary Grayson currently resides in Boone County with his wife, the former Nancy Humphrey of Lexington, and their two daughters, Alex and Kate.
