House Committee on Economic Development
FRANKFORT – Secretary of State Elaine Walker applauds the unanimous passing of Senate Bill 8 from the House Committee on Economic Development. Secretary of State Elaine Walker, Senator David Givens and Hollie Spade, Executive Director of the Office of Legal Services for the Economic Development Cabinet testified jointly on the importance of the bill and pushed for its adoption of the Committee Substitute and passage.
Secretary Walker commended the efforts of successive Secretaries of State for beginning the process of streamlining business interactions with the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Secretary Walker cited her own experience as a small business owner, former Mayor of Bowling Green, and Secretary of State that “the establishment of a Business One-Stop would be a valuable tool to improve the entrepreneurial climate in Kentucky. In this age of modern technology, Kentucky simply cannot afford to be a follower rather than a leader.”
Under One-Stop, a prospective business will be able to log onto the State’s dedicated business site, register their business or file their annual report, register with the Finance cabinet, pay their taxes, sign up for unemployment insurance and ultimately acquire their professional board’s license. In doing so, they will only need to fill in vital information once rather than multiple times on multiple forms.
Secretary Walker stated that “with the leadership of Governor Beshear, the Secretary of State’s office, and the bipartisan support of the State Legislature, especially Senator Givens, I believe One Stop will become a reality- not just in our lifetime, but in the very near future.”
