Grayson pushes voter program during visit

PRESTONSBURG — Secretary of State Trey Grayson was in Floyd County Wednesday to push the "Vote in Honor of a Veteran" initiative aimed at getting out more voters.

Grayson met with Floyd County Clerk Chris Waugh Wednesday morning to deliver materials for the program.

"We seek to honor those who have served so honorably for our country and Commonwealth," Grayson said in a press release. "This program not only serves as a reminder about the importance of voting and our democratic process, but also allows us to pay tribute and remember the enormous sacrifice of these great Americans."

The program features personalized buttons for residents to wear on Election Day to honor veterans which can be obtained from the county clerk's office or by contacting Grayson's office, online at http://sos.ky.gov.

Also on the state Web site, there will be a tribute gallery where visitors can read tributes and stories from relatives and friends of veterans. Tributes will be posted on the Web site in a testimony gallery or collected for the archives of the Kentucky Historical Society.

"The enthusiasm for this new voting initiative is simply overwhelming," Grayson noted. "I am especially delighted for those veterans who deserve this honor and recognition. Their sacrifice protects our democratic process. Although we will never be able to repay them for their efforts, this is a small way that we can give tribute to their service for our country."
