Kentucky Voter Education Video Contest Guidelines

I. Any student enrolled in a Kentucky college or university for the 2008-09 semesters may apply. Groups of not more than three (3) from the same postsecondary institution or individual students can produce a video. Video may not exceed three (3) minutes. Professional assistance cannot be provided in the production the videos. Note: Classroom instructors may assist in the production of student videos; however instructors are not eligible to receive the award.

II. Entries must be the original work of the student or group of students submitting the video. Videos may not contain copyrighted material such as; popular songs, music videos, voices and images of celebrities, unless permission has been granted for the use of the materials listed. Use of copyrighted material without permission is cause for disqualification.

III. Each entrant (or the group leader) must complete the online entry form at www.sos.ky.gov/videocontest prior to uploading the video. Students may access instructions on this website.

IV. The entrant retains ownership and copyright of the video submitted; however, entry of your video in the contest gives the Kentucky Voter Education Video Contest and its partners the right to reproduce and display the video and stills from the video for promotional and educational purposes.

V. Entrants may view the current guidelines and access them at www.sos.ky.gov/videocontest. Additionally, the rules and guidelines of YouTube apply. Both the Kentucky Voter Education Video Contest and YouTube reserve the right to prohibit the producers of the winning video(s) if the contest rules or guidelines are not followed or if either incomplete or inaccurate information is contained on the entry form.

VI. About the Kentucky Student Voter Education Video Contest:  The purpose of the Kentucky Voter Education Video Contest is to educate the citizens of the Commonwealth on the importance of voting by challenging college students to develop creative voter education video advertisements that emphasize the significance of voting in state and national elections. These educational videos will undoubtedly increase civic engagement throughout the state by highlighting both the importance of voting and proper Election Day voting procedures. The contest is a collaborative effort between the Kentucky Campus Compact and the Office of the Secretary of State.
